ISY are a few different options when it comes to adding devices. When getting started for the first time one of the easiest to use is the Start Linking option.
This option can be found towards the top of your console and will pop-up a window that will give you a few different options for the devices you are about to link.
As you can see here there are three choices as you begin to add in your devices. These options will determine how your devices are added into the console. If you have a number of Keypads or switches that are already linked to other devices, choosing the second option will find all linked devices and clear links. The third option will leave your previous programming between devices in place and add any devices linked to the device you are adding.
This is the most useful mode when you are getting started. The Linking in progress window will remain open as you press and hold the set button on as many devices as you plan to add into your ISY.
If your device is a new device or does not have any programming, Remove existing links will be the better choice. Follow the instructions in the pop-up and the ISY will begin adding in the switch.
Note: The progress bar usually runs more than once when adding a device in.
The second commonly used method for adding devices would be the Add a new Device option. This can be found in the top left corner of the console and is used for adding devices one at a time.
Note: This method is the best way to add wireless devices to the ISY.
This option will also pop up a window that will give you options to define the device you are adding in.
For Insteon wireless devices it is always a good idea to input the Insteon ID and put the device into linking mode (press and hold the set button for 3-5 seconds) before pressing OK.
Once your devices have been added to the ISY you can change the properties of your devices and create scenes.
